Good posture is one of the earliest healthy habits we learn but it’s one that we all struggle to maintain. Bad posture stems from any number of regular activities we perform every day so if we aren’t consciously making an effort, we can fall into bad habits.

If you worry about your posture, then you’ll want to listen to this episode of The Alpha & Omega Health Podcast because we’re going to tell you how posture affects your health and what chiropractors look for when making adjustments to improve alignment.

This has always been a problem but we’re seeing the results of poor posture at younger and younger ages. That’s because of the rise of devices and the strain we put on our necks as a result. Just recently we were talking to a doctor that said so many kids are looking down and pulling on their neck that bone spurs have been forming in the back of the neck that they’re having to shave off.

But the problems are most common in adults and we often see how the body reacts to sitting at a desk or sitting down for 40 hours each week. It’s something that adjustments can help with and we talk through some of that process on the show today. Keep in mind that getting an adjustment is great and it can really help realign the body, but if you aren’t doing the correct things to help compliment what your chiropractor is doing, you’ll just go right back to that slumped over posture.

When we do our analysis of posture, we’re also looking at the unconscious ways that you’ve changed your posture like tilting your head a bit. We see this when the Atlas bone gets misaligned and your body compensates because it wants to avoid pain. That’s why the Atlas Orthogonal technique is very effective for this issue as well.

We’ll also share a few tips for improving posture at work when you’re sitting at your desk for long periods of time. Making small adjustments to your seat, where you place your mouse, and how you position your legs can all make a big difference.

Like everything else, it’s important that all of your actions are working towards the same goal. Proper adjustments along with consistent exercises can help improve your posture and in turn improve your health.
